Awful Service and Dishonest Company

This company cares nothing about customer service or attention to taking care of your personal items. All they care about is MONEY!!! We had numerous expensive items damaged when our furniture reached our destination. We never received a weight ticket. The drivers who picked up our furniture tried to get my wife to pay for them a hotel room. They did everything to get out of working when they showed up. our furniture was over a week late. Between this company and the company brokered them out, neither one of them would take responsibility for the dishonesty to getting us a weight ticket which we have still not received. I would not recommend this company to my worst enemy!! They are HORRIBLE and that is being kind!!

Deceptive, Dishonest, and Destructive

Cal Van Lines gave an initial quote that sounded very competitive. They stated they would pack items, there was insurance for damages and they could be there within the week to pick everything up. It took them two weeks to show up. Not a big deal. They packed all the items into a truck, and took it to a warehouse. The time frame was April 23 to May 11th. Well, on May 11th there was no phone call and no one came. A phone call to the company, and they said there was a delay in leaving from the warehouse but it would be there in one week, and they would definitely call 24-48 hours ahead of time (there had been numerous lack of communication issues already). One week passed, no one called. I called. They said the truck broke down (which confilcts with the story of the driver). They said one more week and I would be contacted with discounted price and arrival time. They did contact me, but did not give the dicsounted price. When the truck arrived I was told I had to pay the full amount or not get any of my items, despite all the reassurances I would get a reduced rate due to lack of communication and over two week delay. Long story short, several items were damaged. (120 days to possibly get up to 60 cents per pound re compensation), I had to help offload and assemble (the driver slept and had his new assistant try to assemble). DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY, they lied on several occasions, will likely be late, and damage your items, and it will all cost you more than using PODS, U-Haul box, etc.

Can't give zero stars?? Under NO Circumstances should you ever use Cal Van Lines! I contracted with ALLSTATE Van Lines and they hired Cal Van Lines to do the move. After being 20 days late, my belongings finally arrived. I was given my final amount due the day prior, which is fine, but when the driver arrived, the total had gone up. When my items were put on the truck at my home in California, they were intact. When they arrived in NY, they had dismantled EVERY piece of furniture that had screws. Also, don't bother using wardrobe boxes.. They opened mine, took large items out and cut the boxes in half, shoving my once hanging clothes to the bottom of the box. They do this to make the boxes smaller to fit better on the truck. I have several damaged items, all my clothes are now wrinkled after being in the bottom of the box for a month and I am missing items. Can you say Invasion of Privacy? I know they went through every box, who knows what else is missing. WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE!

ONE MONTH??????

I was promised the worst case scenario would be 18 days from the day they picked up my stuff. Today is DAY 24. I am now told after calling them AGAIN which takes an hour...... that I will receive my stuff on approximately DAY 30.

Broken, lost furniture with poor ...

Company made promises to package items like TVs and did not, as a result tv was smashed. After leaving my home with property packed up they went to a second location, unwrapped my property and dismantled it so much their own employees couldn't put it back together. Plus they lost most of the nuts and bolts making furniture useless. I filed a complaint and they have failed to pay for any damage plus never offered to put furniture they took down to its smallest pieces possible together. They want to blame the customer and are not receptive to taking any responsibility. If you want a good mover don't use this company.

My Expectation Were Met and Exceeded

My items were picked up last week and delivered today. I wanted to take a moment express how pleased my wife and I are with the guys at Cal Van Lines. I was referred to Kevin G (Our Sales Rep) at Cal Van Lines Inc. by my brother who had recently used their service for a second time. Our family relocates about every three years so we already had an idea of what to expect of the process but I must say that my "expectations were exceeded". Their excellent customer service blew me away. Everyone was courteous and seemed to really care about our needs. I didn't expect my Sales Rep to call after he booked our move but he called during the pick-up to make sure things were going as planned and also to follow-up once we were delivered. My wife is such worry wart when it comes to the handling of her antiques and other rare and/or vintage items and I am so relieved to say that every piece arrived in the same condition in which it left our home in Orange County. The job foreman gave her his word that the items would be secure and personally worked with the crew to properly wrap and secure them. I could carry on and on with the details but this was the first move (4th move since 2001) that we've had that went 100% right. I'm very grateful for my brother's recommendation as I had no desire to call upon any other company that we've used previously. I hope to retire within the next couple of years and don't plan on moving again but if so I will definitely be calling on these guys. Thanks to all who were involved in making our move a success.
