Many times people will get so caught up in the physicality of their move, they can let something like a change of address slip their minds. It may seem like a small task, but overlooking it can cause big problems if you’re awaiting any important bills or documents.
If you want to be absolutely sure that your important mail ends up getting to your new residence, there are a few steps you should take:
Changing Your Address:
- Personally call all banks, insurance companies, credit card companies and other financial institutions to inform them of your move and new address. You can usually confirm the address change online as well to ensure the representative made note of the change. This is also a good time to order checks with your new address on them.
- Go online and change all shipping, mailing and billing addresses to your new residence for any important correspondence. This could also include any magazine subscriptions, book clubs, monthly product refills, etc.
- Visit the post office and fill out a change of address form. This will redirect any incoming mail from your old address to your current one for a year. This way, if you forgot to inform any one person or company, you will have ample time to make adjustments and not miss out on your mail in the meantime.
Don’t forget to change your address on all your identification cards, like your driver’s license, registration, health insurance cards, etc. as well! Even if you live in the same state, you will still need to change your driver’s license information as soon as possible, to avoid any potential tickets.
If you’re overwhelmed by your upcoming move and are afraid you may forget important details, leave everything up to the professionals! You can compare moving quotes from reputable services in your area here at Movers.com, just by filling out our free quote form.
