Unethical business, stay away

Gave a quote over the phone and refused to come look at the house furniture and goods and said the price wouldn't change. Showed up a day later than scheduled and said it would be $34k with half in cash that day. Additional charges of $4,000 per month for storage, $7,000+ for a different delivery location when their driver couldn't get into the housing development (even though every other neighbor had large moving trucks), 19 hours heads up not 24. Insisted on cash, not certified funds. Additional $300 per packer charged on both sides. Packers moved oil still in lamps that broke and spilled and claimed no responsibility for the mess or the hazard or damage to goods.

There are no words to describe the ...

We received an actual legal contracted quote of 8, 000. They came two days before we closed on our home. Told me it was gonna cost 14000. I had more than they thought ( nope we had an itemized list and it was all there) even counted boxes not to go over amounts. 1DAY INTO PICKUP, I’m told that it will cost more 2000 more as it took up more room on the truck than they initially thought BULLSHIT Can’t back out I have to be out in 1 day I’m told we will have our stuff stored in storage in Concord ,NH. Another lie It was stored in Denver Then they want their 50% before they will talk about delivery I call on December 16th to say we are closing on new home the 29th I keep calling and calling (going to a vm) finally I call from another number and someone answers I’m told it’s 24 days to deliver from the date I said I was moving in which was 13 days later than when I notified them. I had my whole family and elderly mother in law. We had no furniture and slept on air mattresses. No chairs etc. we had to buy towels, dishes, chairs on and on. We didn’t receive our stuff until the end of January amd then I’m. Barged ANOTHER 1600.00 because They couldn’t get the truck up our driveway ! They said …..we will have to move it to another truck. If you do t want to do that d Ted Jen we will dump it in a storage unit and you ( meaning me )can move it yourself Yup that’s what they said They would only take cash or money order!!! My furniture was damaged beyond repair!!! I contacted DOT and office of AG and I was told that it sounds like it was scammed but basically to get in line because there are tens of thousands more in my position and it may go to court someday but it will be a very long time . That the best thing to do was to move forward And try to forget about it. I was robbed and my belongings held hostage In retrospect I should have sold everything other then my sentimental stuff and bought all. We here I paid a total of $17,600.00 for this experience and was left with damaged goods.

DO NOT USE

I used Expo Van Lines (a delivery broker) for a move from Wichita to Kansas City, MO (Less than 200 miles) on Friday, May 14. Western Van Lines was the carrier that completed the job. I was told by Expo that the job may only take up to the weekend. When the movers came on the May 14, I was told that it could maybe take a week but no one could give me any concrete information. I called Western Van Lines on Monday, May 17 for an update on my delivery. I was then told for the FIRST time that my delivery could take anywhere up to 21 business days and that my items were in a warehouse in Missouri. That day was Monday, June 14. Last week, I’ve called both the carrier and the broker multiple times to get an update and have repeatedly been told that a delivery is being scheduled but had no additional details. Items were finally delivered on Saturday, July 3. I still do not recommend using this broker for your move. Unfortunately it appears the behaviors of this broker and carrier are common in the moving industry, so do your homework and get everything in writing.

THE WORST!

AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Though I know it's hard to avoid these scammers, because the only way they get hired is through a broker, where the customer has no say in who gets hired by these equally as shady brokers. No one would hire these people, unless they buy the LIES on their website: They claim: 42 Registered trucks (FMCSA says they have 2) A+ BBB rating (as you can see here, they certainly do not) 46+ years experience (their phone recording says 75...yet they opened less than 2 years ago Long story short: For our move from Phoenix, AZ to Charleston, SC: A Moving Broker (Complete Van Lines - based in Pompana Beach, FL, don't work with them either...) placed us with Western Van Lines. Just like everyone else, we were low-balled with a quote to begin with, which then doubled (with no proof as to why) when the actual moving came. Held hostage, we continued on. The promised 14 days pass (insert lots of unanswered calls, voicemails and emails). The 2nd promise of 21 business days passed (insert lots of unanswered calls, voicemails, and emails). Then, on business day 30 (the guaranteed delivery date as noted in the contract), in a text from the boss, they told us they will not deliver to us, and demanded we come get our belongings, which we gladly did, especially when were were promised a full refund (how kind....in typical WVL fashion, we have not received the refund. Obviously. (insert lots of unanswered calls, voicemails, and emails). We are out $5000+ and way more when you take into account our having to fly to Phoenix, rent a U-Haul and drive our stuff back to SC. Only thing left is small claims court, though even when we win, I'm sure we'll never be able to collect. Another fun tidbit: while we were loading the Uhaul (our stuff was still 1 mile from our house in Phoenix in a mini storage unit), the Western Van Lines representative (laborer) assaulted my husband. Cops came and diffused the situation. What kind of "company" assaults their customers!???

Bad Service

We used Western Van Lines to move from Minneapolis, MN to Mesa AZ. We were told 1 price and it wasn't even close. They charged even more when they picked up our stuff. They never told us about a packing charge which was over $500. We were told we would have our things in 7 to 10 days and it took almost 21 days. Our stuff was mishandled, smashed and broken. A lot of our things didn't even show up. The delivery guys called the warehouse and were told that some of our thins were found and we still have not received the items that supposedly found. They don't return phone calls. Total disregard for people's things. We have left so many messages to get this resolved and have received no return phone calls. We had a solid oak book shelf that was delivered all smashed. A solid oak file cabinet that was also delivered smashed. As far as I am concerned they have stolen what we did not get returned to us. We paid this company for a service that was not provided so they also stole money from us.

THE BAD REVIEWS DO NOT LIE. DO NOT ...

You're reading reviews because you're deciding which moving company to choose - stop here. Do not choose Western Van Lines. They are the worst moving company that we could have chosen. We worked with Western Van Lines for our move from Florida to Mississippi. They are a fraudulent company with horrific customer service. They picked up our belongings on September 24th, and for 4 weeks, NO ONE could tell us where our items were and when they would be arriving. Samantha and Jennifer, "customer service", were horrible at communicating and ultimately combative, and even ignored our calls and texts for weeks. On October 22nd, they called to tell us that they would be arriving and would not even attempt to deliver our goods into our apartment complex due to the size of the truck, even though both myself and the apartment complex manager assured them there is plenty of room for their truck. They forced us to pay an extra $500 to even begin to deliver the items, and then would not even SHOW us our items inside the closed U-Haul until we paid in full. They told us that they would be charging us an hourly rate while they transferred our items. We followed them on their way to retrieve the smaller UHaul and we caught them riding around the town killing time. We then called the police to report our goods stolen, and at the sight of the police, the delivery drivers became aggressive and threatened us. We now have a police report filed with our city. They finally arrived back with our belongings AND MORE THAN HALF of our boxes were missing, and our large sectional couch and vanity were completely broken beyond repair. They broke their contract that specifically stated they had 30 business days, excluding weekends, to deliver our goods - therefore, we should have NEVER paid full price for a service that was INCOMPLETE. When I called Jennifer at customer service, they told me the contract says that they can deliver "most of" our items by the 30 days...this is inaccurate and downright stupid. Magically, nearly a month later, now November 17th, they "found" our items and delivered the boxes absolutely crushed.

Do Not Use Them!

DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE!!!! My wife and I decided to move from Florida to Tennessee. We called this company, biggest mistake ever, and gave them a try. If I could give a negative star rating to them I would. They told us they would come and give us an estimate of our things on Thursday. On Thursday we got a call telling us the driver got sick so they would come the next day, Friday. After several phone calls on Friday we finally got a call from the driver at 12:00 p.m. saying he was just leaving Miami (a 5 plus hour drive). Then we got another call at 3:30 p.m. telling us they broke down and would not be able to make it. Saturday, the third day, they finally show up after 1:00 p.m. with a truck too small for our stuff. They could not pack everything on Saturday and we were closing on our house on Monday. We had them pack as much stuff as they could and then had to call a local company to pack the rest of our things. We specifically asked for delivery on October 6th, the day after we closed on our house in Tennessee. After several phone calls not returned, we finally got to talk to the manager, Jennifer. She assured us our stuff would be on its way but we did not believe her. She then got the OWNER of the company on the phone and he threatened to hold our stuff until the last possible date, then hung up on us! This is the OWNER of the company! We did not receive our items until October 11th and were told that day (Saturday) we needed to have cash or a money order. The banks were closed that day, Sunday, and Columbus Day as well. We had to scramble around trying to get the needed funds or be charged another $150 per day if we did not! I would not use them if they were the last moving company in the World!

SCAM. Taking legal action!!

I initially worked with sales rep; Adrian Jones (208)957-6959 who led me to believe he was a Christian family man who would do everything to help me. I email him a list of every item I own with measurements so that I could get an accurate estimate. "Josh" was my quality assurance person but I never got a last name, email or phone number. Movers came on August 27th to pick up my things and arrived in a small graffitied van and arrived at 4:00 and after 5 hours, told me I was 350 cubit feet over and make me pay $1800 cash or they would hold my items hostage. It was "too late" to call anyone and I was a female (exhuasted), alone with movers who wouldn't leave my home at 9pm. I went to the bank and got them cash just so they would leave as I had to be out of my rental the next day. They told me (and the contract states) they would deliver between 3-14 days after my pick up date and it has now been 19 days with no contact. They will not respond to my emails or phone calls. After doing research, I feel stupid! They address on their contract is a home in Miami which is now for sale and is owned by people with criminal records and the office in Boise is not occupied but only used as a front. I don't know what to do! Do I report my items stolen? Do I get an attorney? No one will help me. I used the BBB rating as an indicator that this is a reputable business but it clearly is NOT and now I can't trust the BBB.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY UNDER ANY ...

They broke most of my electronics. Then they refused to pay out the insurance claim. Once you book your move, the rep who sold you the deal will 100% ghost you. They will jack up pricing and charge for a ton of hidden costs. They also make claim to owning their equipment and personnel. They do not. Both movers on the pick and delivery side were fully outsourced. I can confirmed this with the team leads. They claimed to have no affiliation with WVL and spoke negatively of the business. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.

Awful is an understatement

This company packed up my dad's items and removed them from the apartment a few days before his big move in July. We are now in September without him having received his items. So far Western Van Lines has kept his money for services not even rendered, and his clothes, furniture, housewares and family keepsakes. Stay far far away from this joke of a company!

Horrible Company

Abysmal service from start to "finish". Deceptive sales practices and failure to make final delivery. Purple Heart Moving Group was hired on June 3rd 2020 after talking with the sales rep Josh Donovan over the phone. It was assured that I would not under any circumstances pay more than the quoted price of $1994.52. When the movers arrived, double the quoted price was demanded. Because I had to be out of my apartment the next morning, I allowed them to take my things. I was also given a delivery window of 10-15 days after pick up. That was 4 weeks ago on July 28th. It is now August 27th and I have been unable to find neither the location of my items nor my estimated delivery date. The customer service line has been unwilling to give that information. They have been extremely difficult to get ahold of. I have called approximately 3 times a week and have now heard the phrase "hopefully by the end of the week" for 2 straight weeks. This company should not be allowed to do this to anyone else. After speaking with a customer service representative on August 27th, I was told that all the company could do was check on the status of my shipment. Their service and sales departments have been the opposite of helpful and this company should lose their business license.

Terrible Service and shipping manager

It is so sad I am writing a one star review. I chose rhis company for the 75 years experience and good reviews. My items were picked up June 29th and I still have not received them. I called frequently since July 15th and have been told someone will call you back... no one EVER CALLED BACK. To make matters worse, when we asked why our items had not been on the road/delivered the only response we received was "We don't know ma'am. " ???? . Well into August we called again and again getting the same run around. At this point we were close to calling the police because as far as we knew - because no information was given to us - our stuff is lost or stolen. FINALLY TODAY, August 20th, I get a call saying my items will be delivered tomorrow and my balance is due. GREAT. But waiting 2 months and having to buy my husbands medical equipment/supplies because we couldn't carry it all on the plane - there needs to be an adjustment to my balance. After calling and having a rep tell me someone will call me... AGAIN.... i wait. Then I get a call from the rudest person I have ever had to speak to. Laura, the shipping manager. She not only speaks down to me, but interrupts me, and insults me. I could not believe my ears. Having a wealthy, long lasting company you work for and speaking to a dissatisfied consumer like that is COMPLETELY unacceptable. I don't let my nephew speak to me that way much less a Karen in charge. I am still attempting to get a hold of someone in a higher position. We will see how that goes but i am devastated at my experience with this company. Hire someone else and save your sanity! Go with a company who respects you if you request a solution to your complaint!

Con Artists at their Core

I have hired movers a handful of times and these guys are by far the worst. They will be professional in the initial phone call and lowball the other competitors on their estimate to get you to sign the contract. Then they will wring you for all you're worth. They are about as pro-consumer as the mafia. My sales rep, Josh Levy, promised a good deal, which it did sound like one. Then he calls the week of the move to try charging me more for stuff he didn't ask about in the first call. A week of? But I can't get refunded of my deposit that close to moving day, nor can hire another crew in that amount of time! Gotcha. I managed to argue enough to keep it low though. But, on moving day, the movers, hired contractors mind you, slapped me with a bunch of "you have too much stuff" fees. But I'm one person, how does someone with barely a full one-bedroom apartment's worth of furniture have too much stuff? Suddenly my $2500 estimate went to $4064. And that wasn't even the end of it. They were LATE on delivery about a week, and when the second pair of contractors showed up, they tried to charge $75 more for being on the second floor, something the company knew from the very beginning. THEN they told me the money order I had wasn't good because it wasn't a postal one. So I had to go cash my own money order which turned out to be $130 dollars so they could have cash. All things good ol' Josh Levy somehow forgot to tell me. So please, PLEASE read everything and read the reviews before hiring these guys. I was going to hire Bellhops because I had a good experience with them before, but Levy purposely lowballed their price knowing he was going to charge me an arm and a leg in the end. I had to dip into my savings and it will likely take through the new year to recover. If there is a 2020 embodiment of moving companies, it's these assholes right here. Don't do it.

Bad service, don't honor their word

This would be zero stars if possible. My wife and I moved from CO to CA, we had a pick-up date set and finalized. Less than 24 hours before our pick-up time we were notified by Marty that they would be 2 or more days late. Our realtor helped us to get an in town moving company and a u-haul to store our belongings since we had to vacate on the day of the house closing. Marty, at first, acknowledged responsibility and proposed a partial refund but that quickly changed once we pursued the refund. In the following three weeks Marty has stated that they would refund the price of 480 dollars which was the price incurred for in town movers and u-haul storage. However, after sometime no refund came through and silence from Western Van Lines, I began to investigate. Now Marty has lied to multiple employees saying they only offered 250 dollars also stating that this is the agreed amount on recorded calls. Marty has also failed to call us back for almost two weeks and now blocked our phone number. The company continues to say they never agreed to any price and now is trying to lie about their taped phone calls. We also had to coordinate our own move and relay our pick-up dates and logistics to various drivers ever since the initial pick-up date was missed. I would not recommend dealing with this company, they are overpriced and use predatory bait-and-switch tactics.

Long Distance Covered

It is so hard to find moving companies that are experts at long distance transports such as from Iowa City to Detroit. It really is a long way so I had to be extra careful while choosing my mover. I chose Western van lines on the basis of their previous work with one of my cousins. They didn't disappoint me. Their quote was reasonable, they arrived on time, packed everything right and loaded the items correctly. The great thing was that after traveling such a long distance, I was glad to have received all of my furniture intact. These entire crew of guys were awesome.

Awful Awful Awful

This company is absolutely awful, and I regret selecting them for my move from Washington to Illinois. I was sold a full service move where my furniture would arrive within 3 days of my arrival in Illinois. The movers would wrap and pack all large items and take apart large furniture, I was in charge of putting everything in boxes. I was told that the contract stipulated it could take up to 18 days if there’s weather delays or truck issues, but to fully expect my items to arrive within 3 days of my arrival. My move was in June, so weather would not be an issue. I confirmed numerus times before signing that I could expect my items within a few days of the agreed upon date and that they would be in contact with me along the way with updates. I arrived Illinois and waited until a day before my items were supposed to arrive to call to confirm that my items would be there the next day. The communication once my items were picked up could not have possibly been any worst. I was never able to contact the salesman or the “moving specialist” ever again. Always right to voicemail and never calling me back. I was able to get in contact with dispatch, who told me my items had not yet left the Washington State… 9 days after picking everything up. I was told I “need to read contracts better” “this is amazon, you can’t expect your items when you need them”. I explained I was told that the 18-day stipulation was only for emergencies. I was then told “we wait until we have enough items to send to that part of the country, to ship”. “It’s what the contract says and you need to deel with it”. I was given a cell phone number to call to get updates. A week later, not hearing anything I call that number and was told “it’s a private cell phone and do not call again regarding the move” Finally THREE WEEKS after our agreed upon date the mover call saying they would be at my place the next day. I take off of from work, deflate the air mattress and prepare the apartment. They never show. They call me that night and tell me it will be the next day. Once they arrived 2 pieces of furniture were damage and a box with all of our plates and bowls did not arrive. After placing everything in the apartment the movers said that they were done without putting anything together. After arguing with them and showing them the contract for a “full-service move” they put together the large pieces of furniture. This is the worst experience I’ve ever had with any time of company. Do not use them at all costs. Awful and rude communication while messing up every aspect of the move. I would leave negative stars if I could.

Extremely efficient

I have to move often for the profession that I am in. I know how the moving companies work and it would be fair to say that all of them delay the packing and loading time to cost you more money. However, for my last move from Denver, CO to Houston, TX, I hired Western van lines which didn’t delay at all. Their men meant only business. I suppose given how busy their schedules are, the men don’t need to delay a move in order to earn more. They were very professional and all my belongings were very well taken care of. I give them 5 stars for efficiency.

Safe and professional

We moved from AZ - OR with Western Van Lines. Everything was done quickly and safe. We understand Covid could delay things a bit but over all it was done very well and professional. We would use them again!!

Well trained crew

These men who look like they can carry the statue of liberty don’t always deliver! I learned that lesson the hard way when I had to sadly witness the damage of my favorite couch by previous movers. This time when I had to move from Portland to Tucson, I was determined not to hire untrained movers. So I did my research and came across Western van lines. Their reputation in the market is very good. I wasn’t totally convinced by the word of mouth, but when their crew arrived at my house, I knew why they were so popular. Their men were skillfully trained. They knew how to handle different kinds of valuables. Their wrapping and loading was fantastic. I will definitely hire them again.

Helpful and Reliable

The two things you really need from your moving company are for them to be understanding of your demands and be really professional with their work. I think Western van lines delivered on those grounds during my move from Cedar City, UT to Colorado Springs, CO. The four crew members that took only 5 hours to wrap up my 17 years of belongings truly deserve an award for being incredibly efficient. They were all very understanding of my delivery requirements and followed my instructions accordingly. I received all my belongings on time and everything was secure. I am pleased that I’m writing this positive review for this hard working moving company.

Fraud

This company was charged with fraud and made almost half a million dollars in restitution to former clients (as we found out after hiring them). They lie, cheat, and steal. They should be put out of business. Right now, they are 2 weeks late on a written guaranteed delivery date and cannot tell us where our stuff is or when (if?) it will be delivered.

Terrific bunch of movers

I have been preparing for my job in Chicago for the last 6 months. When it was time to make the move, I realized I forgot to contact a moving company to move my stuff to Chicago. Hastily, my father called up Western van lines, who were happy to help on such a short notice. Their quote seemed quite reasonable and they arrived right on schedule at my doorsteps in Denver, CO. They were very skilled at wrapping and loading all my valuable stuff into their truck. The workers really impressed me with their efficiency. Now it's time for me to show my efficiency at my new job here in Chicago!

Very skilled men they have

When I hired Western van lines for my move from Phoenix, AZ to San Antonio, TX - I didn't really have many ideas about them. I hired them because one of my uncles had used them before. Their quote seemed very reasonable to me and it also made me worried about their skills. Because in most cases, companies that quote you low are really incompetent. Fortunately, their men were far from inadequate! They arrived on time with their shiny vans and tip-top equipment. They packed up everything and loaded them onto their trailers. I had to do nothing except for giving them an inventory. Their leader made me tick off each piece of inventory once they delivered everything in San Antonio.

Moving specialists

As I relocate quite often, I know the moving companies and how they work. There is one company, Western van lines that move people and their stuff across the states everyday efficiently. I know because I have used them 3 times already. They are very professional, always punctual and ready to release you of any moving stress! I hired them for my last move from Phoenix to Nashville and their standards seem to have remained unchanged, if not improved. I highly recommend Western van lines for moving within the states.

This company means business

Understanding how moving from Los Angeles to Miami may seem quite ridiculous to many people. I was just really tired of Los Angeles, to be honest. So when a job offer came from Miami, Could not resist. Quickly arranging a moving company to take all of the furniture. We hired Western van lines because of the reputation they have. They delivered on every aspect. They were extremely professional at their job, their wrapping was immaculate, and they loaded everything safely out of our third story apartment to their van waiting downstairs, all without any rope out the window. Here is a cheer to Western van lines and a new life in FL.

Californian experts

Let's face it, California is enormous. And there is no other moving company that knows California better than Western van lines. They are made of local lads who know the cities of California like the back of their hands. Naturally I hired them for my move from San Diego, CA to El Paso, TX. I sure will miss the life of San Diego but Western van lines made my move a little easier for sure. All I had to do is to give responsibilities to their men and they really did the rest. It's an absolute treat to see these men at work.
