You're eagerly anticipating your moving day, but you're not sure what exactly you need to do to prepare for it. You've hired a professional moving company to come and take care of everything that needs to be done, including moving your boxes and furniture for you and loading it onto the moving truck, and all you need to do is sit back and watch them do their jobs. But is that really all you need to do?

When you're preparing for your moving day, it's always a good idea to make sure you're as organized and ready for the move as the movers who are coming to do the job. Even if you've hired a full-service moving company to do everything from the packing all the way to the unpacking, there are always things you can do to ensure that everyone is fully prepared for when moving day finally arrives.

As moving day draws nearer, you might feel yourself getting a little anxious, but it's nothing that the proper preparation can't fix. If you want your movers to arrive on moving day and be in and out of your house as quickly as possible, you'll have to have a few things taken care of prior to moving day. This guide will provide you with a few helpful tips for what you can do to pitch in and prepare your home for when your movers arrive on moving day.

Have a planned schedule for your day

A little organization never hurt anyone, and if that includes planning your day down to the minute, then have at it. Moving day is usually an extremely hectic day, with the movers arriving and people coming in and out with boxes and furniture, trying to empty your home and load up the moving truck as swiftly as they can. You may often find yourself in the middle of this whirlwind unsure of what you need to do and finding yourself wanting to help out. Staying organized and knowing exactly what you need to accomplish and what kind of time table you're operating with will help to smooth things out on moving day and make your life a lot easier.

For example, having a clear-cut moving schedule will certainly help things move along very smoothly on the big day. Knowing exactly when the movers are scheduled to show up and having all of your boxes close to the door for easy pick-up and loading will speed the process up considerably. Also, prepare your kids and pets for the move by keeping them out of the way of the movers and placing them in a safe spot for them to keep busy while the move is in progress.

This preparation also includes making sure your home is safe for the movers to do their job and that you've cleared out any debris or objects that can get in the movers' way during the move. That means not only making sure your children and pets are kept safe and out of the way of the movers, but also making sure that all hallways are cleared of boxes or other stray objects laying around and that the movers will be able to maneuver freely and without obstruction when they're carrying around heavy boxes or trying to move large pieces of furniture.

Prepare your home

Another way to prepare for the moving day is to protect your house from the hazards of moving that will typically occur when the movers arrive to carry out your boxes and furniture. This means placing plastic protectors on your doorways and any corners to protect them from scratches and dents and place some rugs down for the movers to walk on so they don't damage the carpets or floors.

If there is inclement weather forecast for your moving day, you should also take the proper precautions to make sure that everything will be safe for the movers in the event of rain, snow, wind or other bad weather conditions. If you're moving in the winter, make sure to salt your driveway, sidewalks and all walkways leading to and from your house. Also, you can protect your home by placing some runners or plastic mats on the floors to protect them from water or dirt.

Do a walk-through prior to the move

Before the movers arrive, doing one more quick walk-through of your home and double-checking the inventory and all of your boxes is a good way to ensure that you are not missing anything important and that everything is right where it needs to be, ready for the movers to arrive and load everything onto the truck. The last thing you want to do is realize as the movers are loading up the truck that there is a whole closet full of stuff that you've forgotten to pack. That's why doing a quick but thorough walk-through will allow you to run through the mental moving checklist in your head and help you catch anything you may have missed in the chaos and confusion of the days leading up to your move.

With all that goes on prior to a move, it's easy to forget things and even easier to misplace things, so you can never be too thorough in your preparation so that you can make sure no stone is left unturned. Being as prepared as possible is the best way that you can help your movers when moving day arrives, and it's also the best way to ensure that you make their jobs as easy as you can, so that the move can go smoothly and you can focus on settling into your new home and beginning the next chapter of your life.
